Cell Phones in Class

I believe that cell phones can be a positive or negative device, depending on how you utalize them.
On one hand, they can be very helpful. The students can quickly share information with each other, even if they are not in the same room. (ie. 3 in the classroom, 3 in the library.) It can be a tool that takes pictures, video tapes, records voices, times, calculates, organizes, and so much more! It can be a useful device for students who choose to ultalize it. Cell phones can also help principals stop crime and bullying. A student is more likely to text another, then to tell them in person, that they look bad, their rude, threaten them, etc, etc. If a student says that stuff over text messaging, it is traceable. It will always be in cyberspace, it can always be retrieved and there is proof of what was said, when and the context of it. This can be used for suspensions, detentions, or court (if necessary). A cell phone also forces students to read and write, short forms or not, they are still reading and writing.
Even though students recieve text messages on their phone, that doesn't mean that they will check them. (Most will, but some won't). Although text messaging can be distracting, it can also be a good thing. If the entire class is always texting in say, Ms. Sprietzer's Math Class, then the teacher may want to reconcider their teaching styles. It can be a good indictator as to if the students understand and/or finds the material interesting. Also, if the class is extremely boring, whether the student is texting or is doodling, reading, staring off in space, they are distracted. They are not going to pay attention anyways, so why not use cell phones? There are so many positive aspects to using cell phones, that it outweighs the con of texting. Texting can be disrespecting to the teacher, but if the students aren't texting, their mouthing-back, gossiping, passing notes, ignoring them, etc. Students will always have some form of disrespecting teachers-texting or no texting.
Cell phones are becoming apart of the world, technology is rapidly enhancing, and schools just need to figure out how to embrace cell phones and use them for positive things.
In conclusion, cell phones are a good thing.

The First Assigned Blog

Hey there everyone!
My name is Ashley May Guild. I am, sadly, still 16 years old-I have a late birthday. I am in grade 12 at Waterloo-Oxford. Last year?? I haven't quite decided yet. I love horses, I am actually breaking a Clydesdale right now. (That just means I am taking a horse that is not ridable and training it to become ridable.) I love to be outdoors; hiking, swimming, riding, snowshoeing, even fishing. My goal for this winter is to go on a snowmobile. I have never been on one before, but it looks pretty awesome?! A neat thing I did this summer was learn to drive a Standard Tractor. It is a lot harder than it looks!! My goal for the fall is to get my G2. (Late birthday, so that has delayed the whole driving process). A goal in life that I have is Eventually I want to be able to stand on a horse while it is Cantering. (Running). I have made SOME progress on this goal, I can stand on a horses back now-just as long as they don't take a step. Haha. For my career, I eventually want to have my own ranch and do theroputic riding. That is my goal in life. But it's not very realistic right after high school, so I am wanting to be a kindergarden teacher or someone who works with kids who have mental disabilities. ...Well, that is a pretty vague summary about me, but I am sure that by the time the school year is over you will all get to know me fairly well, just as I will get to know you.
I took Writer's Craft because I thought it looked interesting. I like to write and try and find the meaning in writting. (And not going to lie) I thought it would be an easy credit that counted for University. I also believe that it will be a great class to just write and get some feedback. See what people like and don't like. I admire a lot of writers, I couldn't possibly write them all.

I Need You.

I need you.
I need you,
like the plants need the sun.
I need you,
like the fish need the water.
I need you,
like the night needs the stars.
I need you,
like a baby needs it's mother.
I need you,
like a patient needs a doctor.
I need you,
like a person needs a friend.
I need you,
to love me like I love you.

Translation:
i need you.
i need you,
for me to grow.
i need you,
for me to breathe.
i need you,
for me to feel beautiful.
i need you,
to pay attention to me.
i need you,
even when i am sick.
i need you,
to be concerned.
i need you,
to love me like i love you.

horse and rider.

Magestical, beautiful, understanding.
A horses' grace is never-ending.
The calming power,
is forever sending.

Flying, dancing, soaring
horse and rider become one.
there is nothing more enlightening,
empowering or fun.

and the rider goes home,
and when the day is done.
the experience is always remembered,
when the two became one.
